Dear Teenager,
You have stupid parents.
I know, because I’ve heard you complaining at youth group and I’ve seen your Facebook posts and sat at your lunch table, and I’m here to tell you: you’re right. They are senseless, and out-of-touch, and completely irrelevant.
How do I know? I had stupid parents too when I was your age.
They misunderstand everything, they’re always getting in the way of your plans and your fun, and they have zero clue what it’s like to be in your shoes.
It’s hard having ignorant people run your life, I know; junking up things with their ridiculous rules, foolish advice, and weird opinions, and bizarre clothing.
Sometimes you can barely function with it all.
So what can you do?
Just wait.
You see, thankfully right now, your parents are as dumb as they’ll ever be. They are intellectually at rock bottom.
But gradually, as you get older, they will almost magically get smarter. (This phenomenon is stunning in its reliability).
The older you get, in fact, the wiser they will become, until one day, (usually around the middle of your sophomore year in college), your parents will become brilliant. Every phrase that falls from their mouth will then seem as though it should be etched on stone tablets.
Their advice will begin to improve, their IQs will skyrocket, and even their clothing choices will get less embarrassing.
You will wonder how they ever were that dumb just a few short years ago.
I realize right now how difficult it is, enduring their stupidity as you must, but just hold on.
Just give them a little time to get smarter.
Until then, know that their day is coming.
Wisdom, is just a matter of time.
